Description
This area offers you the beauty of British Columbia, from gentle rolling hills up to the majestic Rocky Mountains. You will find a variety of terrain that takes in an abundance of lakes and three main watersheds: the Parsnip, the Hominka, and the Missinka Rivers.
The elevation in this rugged and breathtaking area varies from 2200 ft to over 7500 ft.
According to the Fish & Wildlife Game Department this area has the highest density of Moose in North America, not to mention the trophy class size of Canada Moose found here. The average Moose in this area squares approx. 46" with many Moose taken with 50" up to 60" racks. Just in this past season 2 Boone & Crockett bulls were taken. If you were waiting to buy a great Trophy Moose territory, this is the one!
This area doesn’t only have Trophy Moose, but also has great Grizzly! Due to the excellent vegetation in the area, the Grizzly do very well and grow to an impressive size. This is probably one of the best areas worldwide for interior Grizzlies. This area has produced a lot of record book Grizzlies over the past years, taking bears from 7 1/2 foot to 10 foot, with skulls reaching up to 26".
The Black Bear in this area also do very well due to the excellent food supply. Heavy timber provides an ideal sanctuary allowing the bears to grow to trophy sizes. Most Black Bears taken measure 6 foot plus with about 25% of them being 7 foot plus. The skull sizes vary from approx. 18" - 21" and the success rate is usually 100%.
Elk and Deer in this area have not been harvested in the past, making for a great opportunity to expand the business to include these animals as well.
Winter hunts are based out of Main Camp and hunting is done via snowmobile, snowshoe or truck along forest roads, rivers and lakes. Main Camp is located right in the centre of the trapline making it easy to check the bait stations and traps for Wolf, Lynx, Wolverine, Marten and Coyote.
This territory consists of: Main Camp, North Camp, Green Acres Camp, Darby Lake Camp, Pantry Lake Camp, Bill’s Creek Camp, and a Mobile Camp. Main Camp has a log lodge with a kitchen and an eating and lounging area. Main Camp also consists of 4 guest cabins - 2 log and 2 frame construction, as well as a guide’s cabin. The main lodge and the guest cabins all contain wood stoves. In addition, there is a shower house with warm running water, 2 outhouses, a meat hanging shed and a skinning table with roof. Access to Main Camp is via truck. Spring hunts are all out of Main Camp, hosting up to nine hunters. During the fall hunting season there will be approximately four to five hunters staying in Main Camp. Hunting is done by foot, truck, canoe and boat.
Rugged North Camp consists of 2 frame construction bunkhouses with wood stoves. This Camp has an outhouse, but no running water. It is used only in the fall hunting season and is reached via ATV with hunting being done by foot.
Green Acres, Darby Lake, and Pantry Lake Camps all consist of 1 frame construction cabin. Green Acres and Pantry Lake Camps are reached via ATV while Darby Lake Camp is reached via 4x4 truck. Bill’s Creek Camp is a tent camp and is also reached via 4x4 truck.
Mobile Camp consists of a Trailer Camper and Tent Frames for hunting more remote areas. Hunting is done by foot, ATV or boat. |
Area Data
Prince George
Visit Prince George and not only will you find wilderness and wildlife, you will also discover a modern city in the heart of BC's Interior. Prince George offers outdoor recreation and adventure combined with all the amenities a city of around 75,000 can offer. Situated in the middle of an endless spruce forest, the city boasts of over 120 parks within its city limits.
Although Prince George has a rich and interesting history, it has since developed into a large cosmopolitan city and offers visitors a large selection of top quality hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts and several full service campgrounds for their accommodation needs. Extensive shopping and a vast selection of restaurants complement the thousands of businesses and services found in our rapidly expanding city.
Prince George is continually growing more beautiful as the years go by. Overlooking the city on Cranbrook Hill, we now have the University of Northern British Columbia - which opened in September 1994 and now is proud to house UBC's Northern Medical Program. We also have a lovely Civic Centre Plaza close to our extensive Public Library and also a multiplex CN Centre at the Exhibition Park. This large venue allows for high quality sports and entertainment to now make Prince George a destination stop. We have the beautiful Two Rivers Art Gallery and two swimming pools with slides and leisure pools. And don't forget to visit our fascinating museum The Exploration Place!
Our city is never still and seems to constantly have an event, festival or celebration to bring people together. The city pulp mills offer tours, and the demonstration forests provide a hands-on understanding of the enormous forest industry in the area. Prince George is recent winner of the Communities in Bloom contest and during the winters we enjoy brightening our city as part of the Winter Lights Celebration.
Prince George offers a rich cultural life, too. Throughout most of the year symphonies, concerts and theatre with local and international talent grace our city's stages. We also have several movie houses, nightclub cabarets, family fun centres, bowling alleys, and pool halls to occupy those long northern evenings. |
