Description
Not often do we have the opportunity of marketing Bighorn Sheep allocation where they are the only permits in that WMU, this is the case in WMU 438. We are pleased to be offering the only 4 Bighorn sheep permits within WMU 438. Cadomin Mines are located within this management unit and boast some of the largest Bighorns harvested. These mine areas hold good populations of sheep and although the mine areas are closed to hunting they certainly supply surrounding area with a steady influx of rams. The entire western side of WMU 438 is the boundary with Jasper National Park. Certainly a look through the record books tells the story of this famed area. There are no camps or equipment offered with these allocations. Allocations such as these are seldom available.

Area Data
Alberta is home of the Bighorn Sheep with a good number of them over 200 poinits. Sheep hunting in Alberta has gained a worldwide reputation. Anyone who has ever dreamed or yearned of hunting the most prominent and revered Bighorn Sheep will come to Alberta. Alberta Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep have always been a premier trophy for sportsmen from around the world where many trophy size sheep are found. Bighorn sheep grow up to 6’ in length, live up to 12 years and can weigh as much as 300 pounds. Rocky Mountain Bighorns live in the grassy alpine of the Rockies, usually at altitudes of 5,000 to 10,000 feet. The Alberta population is estimated at about 5,800 animals based on population counts and hunter harvest information.
Cadomin is an historic Alberta Coal Branch community that is located 50 km south of the Town of Hinton along the Bighorn Highway (Highway 40). For your convenience, the community has a general store with restaurant. In the area around Cadomin are extensive trails for hiking, horseback riding, quading and biking. The nearby Cadomin Cave attracts numerous cavers each year. Area wildlife includes bighorn sheep, moose, elk and other mountain species, with the river and numerous streams offering excellent fishing opportunities
Mountain Hunting Region
This rugged region is a portion of the Canadian Rocky Mountains that stretches along much of the western border of Alberta. It is characterized by forests of coniferous trees, such as spruce, fir and pine. At higher elevations, permanent snow fields and glaciers are scattered among rocky ledges, scree slopes and alpine meadows.
Adjacent to this region are Alberta's three mountain national parks: Jasper, Banff and Waterton Lakes. Hunting is prohibited in national parks.
Travel
You can reach the major centres in the mountain region via all-season highways from Edmonton and Calgary. The region is traversed by paved highways and gravel roads.
